FAQ

What can I run? +

Alpine Linux, Tiny Core Linux, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and your custom .iso.

Can I really upload any ISO and run it? +

Yes and no. You can try uploading a lightweight Linux distribution, and it may even be usable, but nothing is guaranteed. Heavier systems, like GNOME-based Ubuntu, will likely fail to boot due to limited VPS capacity and the lack of /dev/kvm access.

What happens when I click the “Get” button? +

A base image overlay will be created, and you’ll be redirected to a web interface where you can control your virtual machine.

What about a GUI? +

I’ve tried Slax—it booted, ran, and was somewhat usable. Other lightweight systems like this can also be booted and run.

I’m getting strange errors / the VM boots very slowly +

Look—no /dev/kvm, cheap VPS… it’s a miracle that anything boots at all!

How long do VMs stay alive? +

Currently, they stay up for about an hour, unless the authentication token expires earlier.

Will Windows or newer Linux distributions be added? +

That depends entirely on whether I can afford a real server or at least gain access to /dev/kvm. Stay tuned.

Are snapshots available? +

Yep. You can manage snapshots from your profile panel. Just keep in mind that snapshots currently can’t exceed 300 MB—which is basically Alpine Linux with a few small packages. This limit may be increased in the future.

Can I manage virtual machines on my phone? +

Currently, headless machines only.
